Alan and Deidre Caldwell started the business out in 1988 as "Caldwell's Potato Barn".

In 1994 "Caldwell Contracting" was born when Alan & Deidre saw a higher demand for contracting jobs in the region with the growth of the dairy industry in Edendale.​

Caldwell Contracting started out with 2 small tractors, a JF90 tow behind silage chopper, a couple of old trucks and a small team of staff which included their 3 sons - Bevan, Brent & Doug when they were old enough.

New machinery & technology has allowed Caldwell Contracting to expand the business to what it is today with a large and modern fleet and employ over 50 staff in the peak summer months making Caldwell's one of the largest contracting business in Southland.
